Our Methods
I am very passionate about stewardship and the need to stop poisoning our earth. Everything in the natural world functions in cycles that work together to create the environment we live in. The only thing that threatens this balance are the humans whether out of fear, greed, or misunderstanding, is of no difference the results are the same. However, individually we are constantly trying to make our own space safe for our families, friends and pets. This is why I use these methods in landscaping and gardening, because I believe that creating a safe environment involves restoring natural cycles, ensuring food we grow to have nutrient value, healthy plants store carbon and produce oxygen, so are air is cleaner. We can actually play in our yards because there are no poisons on the plants. So, if my contribution to the earth is a safer home environment for some of the people of Weber County than I will be happy.
Living soils
We restore practices to natural cycles and reestablish living soils. A living soil is a vibrant, complex underground ecosystem teeming with beneficial microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes) and larger organisms (worms, insects) that work together to create a self-sustaining environment for healthy plants. This rich microbial community breaks down organic matter, cycles nutrients, improves soil structure, retains water, and defends plants against pests and diseases, making it a more natural and resilient alternative to sterile, chemically treated soils.
Water conservation
Water conservation for landscaping in Utah has become increasingly important. There are a few of the ways we use to achieve this:
- Using drought-tolerant, native, or adapted plants that thrive with minimal water.
- Choosing a more drought tolerant grass variety or a waterwise ground cover
- Efficient Irrigation: Implementing drip systems, maintaining sprinkler systems, proper scheduling, to avoid run-off and overwatering
- Soil & Mulch: Adding compost to improve soil moisture retention and applying mulch to minimize evaporation.
No Toxins
Our approach to landscaping embraces organic methods, no pesticides or poisons are used. Once living soil is restored, healthy plants with proper watering should create an environment that functions the way it was intended to. Upsetting these systems with synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and weed killers is what has disrupted the natural cycles in the first place. The belief that these chemicals are safe is a lie that has been marketed to us over the years and should be viewed as unacceptable. Something we used as chemical warfare is not something that we should be using at are homes. (It shouldn't have been used in warfare either).
